Moving (The Left Hand)

The Left Hand Mirror

The mirror activity is a very simple one. I do things with my left hand and you follow.

The fundamental principles of the left hand are landing, exchange and release. The neutral waiting point is with the thumb in contact with the neck, but the fingers released. The thumb can be in a variety of positions. Behind the neck (low, middle, top) and even hooked over the top of the fingerboard. This position is further influenced by the position of the elbow. Elbow out. Elbow in. The hand pivots on the thumb as the elbow changes position.

Then the fingers.

land.

release.

land again.

exchange.

release

We pause, and we do another one. Notice when there is an exchange, a release, a landing.
